My startup: Ibrii
This is the first post of my personal blog and I decided to write about my startup: Ibrii
Ibrii was founded in 2009 by me and a friend of mine. It’s a long story (as always
) but I’ll make it short and easy for you!
In 2008 while we were still students we decided to found Ibrii. At the beginning our idea was to develop a fast and easy to use online notebook. It did not take us long to realize we were not the only ones to have the same “fantastic” idea, therefore we focused on snipping content from web pages. Within a few months we developed the first alpha version of Ibrii, which we published in April 2009.
It took 8 months to develop the first prototype, since the development process was slowed down by the fact we needed to complete our Msc in Computer Science (Dec. 2008). Surprisingly, Ibrii’s prototype had a lot of success and by the end of June 2009 it reached an average of 7000 unique users a month. Even though in less than 3 months we obtained such a good result, we knew that Ibrii was still bugged and incomplete, but people loved our innovative idea: SNIP, MIX and SHARE every type of content from the web, using only one fast and easy to use tool, Ibrii!
Here it’s a video of our first prototype:
We collected a lot of feedback from our users and in July we started to work on a better and improved version of our service. Meanwhile we found an investor, dPixel, an Italian VC. In November we launched the second version of Ibrii which was presented at DevConnections Event, in Las Vegas, by Dino Esposito, as an example of web 2.0 social service.
Here it is the video of the second version of Ibrii:
Nowadays we have more than 50000 unique users each month, from all over the world, and the numbers are still growing. If you google Ibrii you will find articles about our service, in 7 different languages. I think it ‘s a great result considering the fact that it is the first startup we have ever founded and more importantly that we haven’t made any kind of investment in product promotion.
Moreover a few weeks ago Lorenzo Thione, Founder of Powerset Inc. and now Bing/MSFT became a member of our board and he is now helping us to develop the new version of Ibrii that will be released in a few weeks. We are very proud of Ibrii and we believe that with the upcoming version we will reach more than 500000 unique users by the end of the year.
Thanks and stay tuned!
